Coach Groth says nothing better than playing Moree in the big one
Narrabri Blue Boars second grade coach Tom Groth was a very happy man last Saturday afternoon.
His side qualified for the 2017 Central North Rugby Union second grade grand final with a 35-25 win against Inverell in Walcha.
What he was even more pleased with was that the Boars would get to take on the Moree Bulls in the grand final.
He said that he would not have it any other way, and that he expected his side to rise to the occasion this Saturday.
That match will take place at Chillingworth Oval in Tamworth, the venue where the sides met in their most recent encounter.
That was two Sundays ago in the qualifying final, which Moree won 40-16.
That saw Moree progress straight through to the grand final, and Narrabri forced to beat Inverell to join the Bulls.
The pair qualified for the qualifying final by finishing first and second respectively.
Moree finished first on 65 points after 13 wins and just one loss.
That saw the Bulls finish just five points short of a perfect season total of 70 points, which Pirates achieved in first grade this season.
The Blue Boars won 10 matches and lost four, finishing on 54 points, two ahead of the third-placed Pirates.
One of those four regular season losses for Narrabri was against Moree back in round two, when the Bulls welcomed the Blue Boars to Weebolla Oval.
The home side celebrated a 52-8 victory.
In fact, the last six times the sides have met since August 2015 the Bulls have won.
However, the Blue Boars boast a quality outfit, and are confident that they will bring home the second grade trophy for the first time since the 2011 season.
