“This is the best prac experience I’ve had so far"

When Sydney-based teaching student Annie Tapscott found out that her own kindergarten teacher Marion Tame was now principal of Narrabri Public School, she immediately put up her hand to do her six-week prac-teaching bloc at the school.

Ms Tapscott, daughter of Mary-Ann and the late Bill Tapscott, spent her childhood in Narrabri before her family relocated to Sydney when she was aged 11.

She still has many family members here, and so has kept contact with her hometown and visits frequently.

Nevertheless, she is delighted to have the chance to live here again.

“It’s crazy,” she said.

“The kindy kids couldn’t believe I already knew the words to the school song, and the biggest shock for them was to learn that Mrs Tame had been my teacher in Kindy (in 2002).

“Being back here and learning from the teachers who taught me is such a great experience.

“This is the best prac experience I’ve had so far.

“The resources and teaching techniques are fantastic.”

Ms Tapscott’s supervisor is current Kindergarten teacher Angela Young, but she benefits from the experience of other teachers as well.
