Bob Percival is Narrabri Shire volunteer of the year

Long commitment to the community awarded

TOP HONOUR: Narrabri Shire Volunteer of the Year Bob Percival with Deputy Mayor Cameron Staines and Mayor Cathy Redding following Friday’s announcement.

More than 40 years of contributing to the community were recognised on Friday when Bob Percival was named Narrabri Shire Volunteer of the Year.

Mr Percival took the honour in a field of 12 nominees. It was announced at the Narrabri Shire Council chambers by Mayor Cathy Redding.

The contenders were nominated by councillors and voted on by them to find a winner as part of National Volunteers Week.

The other 11 nominees will be familiar names to many in Narrabri Shire for their many years of voluntary work - Kevin Roden, Julie Dowleans, Dudley Pankhurst, Brian Warren, Robert Downey, Linda Malcolm, Anne Weekes, Kay Gray, Frank Devoy, Pat Verwey (all Wee Waa) and Steve Eather of Baan Baa.

Mr Percival said he was surprised to be named the recipient in such a strong field.
