Bridge safety worries resurface

Regular users of the Tarriaro Bridge have again voiced their concerns

Multiple skid marks tell the story of possible disasters averted as vehicles approach the single lane Tarriaro bridge.

Regular users of the Tarriaro Bridge have again voiced their concerns about driver safety on the single lane bridge as the volume of local and tourist traffic increases.

Regular bridge traveller Leonie Grumley has previously highlighted safety issues and the potential for a serious accident.

Her views echo those of other bridge travellers.

Mrs Grumley has conducted her own surveys at the bridge to monitor traffic behaviour and ‘near misses.’

“I regularly see evidence of hard stopping by cars approaching the bridge and having to give way at the last minute,” she said.

“Who knows what near disasters have been narrowly avoided.

“This busy road has many non-locals travelling on it who are not aware of the single lane configuration as they approach the bridge.”

Mrs Grumley forwarded photos showing skid marks on the approaches and damage to the safety barrier at the bridge.
