Council awards $10.4 million town water upgrade contract

Narrabri Shire Council has announced the awarding of a major contract for the upgrade of the Narrabri water supply.

The $10.4 million contact is one of the biggest tenders awarded by the council in recent years.

The Narrabri Water Supply Augmentation Project, the product of four years’ investigation and planning, will underwrite a quality water supply at one of the lowest costs in the state, the council general manager Stewart Todd said.

“With a commitment to cost efficiency and quality community outcomes, the council is thrilled to announce FB Contracting Pty Ltd has been awarded the $10.4 million construction contract for the project.

“Our aim is to supply the highest service standards at an affordable price, and this project will enable Narrabri Shire Council to continue to provide potable water at what is one of the lowest costs in the State,” Mr Todd said.

Brisbane based family business, FB Contracting Pty Ltd was awarded the contract among a strong field of contenders, he said.

“There was significant interest in the tender from all the major contractors in this field, however FB Contracting, which specialises in civil and pipe laying projects, provided the best value for money at the closing of tenders,” Mr Todd said.

With 87 percent of the works funded by the State Government through the Restart NSW Fund (RNSW 201), the remaining costs will be covered by Narrabri Shire Council.
