Elvira takes flight again

Narrabri illustrator's latest work on show in new book

Narrabri artist Graeme Compton has illustrated 16 children’s books and is now planning an exhibition.

The newest book from Narrabri illustrator Graeme Compton, Elvira and the Triplets, has been released and is already a hit.

Mr Compton illustrated the book written by Dubbo children’s author Pat Clarke.

It has been a successful collaboration for writer and illustrator beginning in 2013 with A One Eyed Chook Called Sheila.

Mr Compton is now well established as a leading Australian children’s book illustrator.

Book number 16, Health Harvest Recipes, written by Emma Martin, is in production now.

Drawing and painting for sixteen books averaging up 30 illustrations each has meant a busy workload, through concept, design, sketches, collaboration, including drafts and redrafts and planning.

Mr Compton has collaborated with Emma Martin several times.

“Her interest is in nutritional information for children,” said Mr Compton.

“I came to her attention through the publisher who showed her my work with Pat Clarke.”

He has now worked with seven different authors so far, several more than once.
