Gas project EIS lodged

Project could create 1300 construction jobs and around 200 ongoing jobs: Santos

Santos Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Gallagher, centre, with general manager Energy NSW Peter Mitchley, left, and manager of Narrabri operations Todd Dunn at a pilot natural gas well on private farm land near Narrabri in March last year.

Santos recently lodged its State Significant Development Application and associated Environmental Impact Statement for the Narrabri Gas Project.

The lodgement is a key milestone in the proposed development of the Pilliga natural gas resource. The EIS will now be placed on public exhibition and community comment and submissions invited.

Santos’ Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Gallagher, said the preparation of the EIS had been exhaustive.

“Santos has spent time producing a comprehensive EIS so the local Narrabri community and stakeholders can be confident the environment and water will be protected as the Project is developed” Mr Gallagher said in a statement.

“The EIS has concluded the Project can proceed safely with minimal and manageable risk to the environment.”
