The old ticket box at Collins Park might have looked in need of a facelift for almost as long as it has been in existence, and now it is about to get one.
A development application has been approved for the heritage-listed booth, which was originally built in 1936.
The project is a joint initiative of the Old Blues, former players with the Narrabri Rugby League Club, and the Narrabri Chamber of Commerce.
Chamber president Russell Stewart is also a member of the Old Blues.
He said the project was born out of a group of Old Blues sitting in the Collins Park grandstand watching a game earlier in the year.
“We started to discuss the heritage of the place and how it was disappointing a lot of the history was gone,” he said.
“The current grandstand is a replica of the old one, but it’s not the same, but the ticket box and gates are still there.
“We talked about it and said we’d love to be able to do [the box] up.
“The Chamber took it over on behalf of the group and approached [Narrabri Shire Council].
“They were very helpful and helped us with the DA.”
