Inland Rail gets Budget nod

There was some good news locally in Tuesday night’s federal Budget, with the Inland Rail project moving a major step closer to fruition.
Treasurer Scott Morrison announced the $8.4 billion needed for the project to be constructed, to be provided over eight years.
The funding should see the rail line completed by 2024.
The money should ensure the completion of the project, which has been a major talking point in Narrabri Shire in the past 18 months, particularly over route selection and a proposed intermodal hub to be sited somewhere in the North West.
While the route selection will be done through the Australian Rail Track Corporation in conjunction with the federal government, the site of the hub is a state government matter, with Narrabri and Moree in the race.
With funding for the Inland Rail project now confirmed, route selection and the intermodal hub will be the prime focus locally.
A Narrabri Shire Council committee set up to push for the intermodal hub to be sited here is close to getting underway.
