James farewells the locks

Local boy's fundraiser for Starlight Children's Foundation a success

James Dhu minus his dreadlocks with Kelly and Rachel Petrie.

And just like that one of Narrabri’s most recognised hairdos has become a wonderful memory.
For three years local boy James Dhu grew his beloved dreadlocks.
But on Saturday he shaved them off to raise both money and awareness for the Starlight Children’s Foundation Australia.
The Dhu family, led by James’ mother Kate and father Dean, held a fundraising day at the Monterey Cafe.
About 50 people turned up to support James and his brave act.
James said that he enjoyed the day.
He said that he did not have a favourite part, but rather everything that happened from the shave to the face painting was enjoyable.
Courtney Ryan from Salon Panache was responsible for the shave, which was James’ second hair cut in his lifetime. It was the first time in five years in the chair for the nine-year-old.
James described his new hair style as “cool”, and said that he did not miss the dreadlocks.
He also said that he was not sure if he would attempt to grow the locks back.
