Namoi Valley County Council days recalled at former staff get-together

Group relives the fine old times

reUNION: Former Namoi Valley County Council staff Neville Smallwood (1965-75), Clem Stanford (33 years service), Clarrie Leven (1969-1990), Brian Fogarty (29 years), Ken Simpson (1961-1981), Bob Wales (1955-1996), John McGovern (1968-1995), Barry Wright (1973-1998) and Steve Johnson (1968-74).

The good old days of the Namoi Valley County Council were recalled when a group of former employees got together recently for a reunion at Narrabri RSL Club.
John McGovern, Walgett, contacted a few old workmates and they agreed to meet up.
“We just thought we would meet up and have a yarn,” said Mr McGovern.
“It’s a reunion of the old blokes.”
The former NVCC workers recalled names like county clerk George Wickham, Bob Harper and electrical engineer Max Johnson from their various eras.
Namoi Valley County Council was headquartered in Narrabri and in those days enjoyed the distinction of being the world’s biggest (by area) provider of electricity with its territory stretching from Gunnedah out to Bourke and right across the Namoi Valley.
