Narrabri poet wins prestigious award at Tamworth competition

Narrabri poet Jacqui Warnock has returned from the Golden Damper Bush Poetry Competition with a second placing.

Tamworth Country Music Festival has the Golden Guitar as the top nationally recognised award for country singers but for country poets the equally prestigious equivalent is the Golden Damper Awards.

Narrabri poet Jacqui Warnock has returned from the Golden Damper Bush Poetry Competition, run during the Country Music Week, proudly bearing a second place medal won against competition from some of Australia’s best bush poets.

The Golden Damper Bush Poetry Competition, now in its 31st year, is the big one for bush poets.

Mrs Warnock acknowledged she was thrilled to win her second place in the Traditional poetry category.

She was edged out by first place winner Gloucester poet Claire Reynolds who won the Traditional and Original sections.
