New CBD retail stores

Former Woolworths Maitland Street supermarket site will be redeveloped

Narrabri Shire Council town planners, acting development and economic growth director Daniel Boyce, Cara Stoltenberg and Luke Flood, processed the DA for the Woolworths site redevelopment.

A new retail complex is planned for the site of the old Woolworths building in the Narrabri CBD.

According to plans for the project, submitted by Tamworth-based Formline Holdings on behalf of the developers, the $3.2 million development will see three large retail spaces on the block bounded by Maitland Street, Tibbereena and Lloyd Streets.

The DA was recently approved by Narrabri Shire Council, with the proponents praising the role of council planning officers in facilitating process of the project.

“We had a very positive experience dealing with the development team at Narrabri Council,” Formline Group managing director Stephen McDonald told The Courier.

“They went out of their way to proactively work with us to overcome challenges that the project presented throughout the process.”

The new development will rejuvenate the retail sector at the northern end of the CBD where the original Woolworths building has languisghed empty for many years.

“The redevelopment will provide a real anchor for the northern end of the CBD,” said economic development manager Bill Birch.
