It has been some time since the Bellata police station was officially open, but that wait is about to be over.
Constable John Stuart has taken up the role of officer in charge at the station, and began duties in Narrabri Shire last week.
Constable Stuart hails from Tamworth, where he was stationed for about three years after graduation.
Prior to that, he actually worked as an agribusiness banker, with frequent contact with Narrabri Shire clients, before scratching a long-held itch.
“I had family members and friends in the police and it was always a career ambition to get there eventually,” he said.
“I decided if I got to 30 and still hadn’t done it, I was just going to do and do it, and I did.”
When the opportunity came up to be stationed at Bellata - which hasn’t had a resident officer for more than two years - he took it.
“Knowing the Narrabri and Moree areas as I do, Bellata was a perfect fit and I jumped at it,” Constable Stuart said.
He also knew a few of the local officers “and that made it easier”.
