Parking changes for Narrabri

Changes planned to ensure compliance with Australian Standard

Angle parking is likely to be removed from this section of Barwan Street in Narrabri.

Angle parking will be removed from some Narrabri streets in favour of parallel parking.
Narrabri Shire councillors recently voted to act on a recommendation from the Local Traffic Facilities Committee to change the parking so that the council would not be liable in the event of a future traffic collision.
It arose from concerns over several years about the width to allow traffic on some roads where angle parking had been established on both sides of the road, in particular on roads where line marking was currently not in place for individual parking spaces.
The Australian Standard states that the width of the road in such a
situation must be either 20.4m for low-traffic areas or 20.8m for higher traffic areas.
While the change could have been made from 45 degree to 30 degree angle parking, the latter was not supported in Narrabri Shire.
The change means that there will be 40 less angle parking spaces in Narrabri.
Boggabri was also part of the audit but was found to have no non-compliant areas, while Wee Waa will lose 92 spaces.
