trong winds and inclement weather did not deter the young pirates of Narrabri from attending the grand official opening of the new Pirate Park, complete with treasure hunt, balloon twisting and face painting.
The Lions Club provided bacon and egg rolls to the crowd of about 50 people who braved the impending rain to attend.
Kids were kept busy with a treasure hunt. Once they had found their way around the course and collected all the stamps on their maps, they were able to raid the treasure chest for gold coins and lollipops.
‘Pirate’ Jenny Campbell from Narrabri Library was there making balloon swords, and face painting was also a popular choice.
Narrabri Shire Council open space coordinator Evan Harris said the council was ecstatic with the public reception of the new facility.
“There are always people there, now, whereas before [the upgrade] the playground was often empty,” he said.
