Big announcements at Narrabri Show opening

The Narrabri Show was officially opened on Friday night with the announcement of the Senior and Junior Showgirls for 2017. Libby Baguley, fourth from left, was crowned Senior Showgirl, while Mayah Bourke-Tindal fifth from left, won the Junior honour. While the big announcement for many at the official opening of the Show on Friday night is that of the Showgirl winners, there is always another one just as important.
And that is of the latest life member of the Narrabri Show Society. This year it deservedly went to Wendy McNair, who has been associated with the Show for about 50 years.
“I’ve competed in nearly every class and section there’s been,” Mrs McNair told the crowd.
And while she briefly reflected on the past, Mrs McNair was firmly focused on the future.
“Please keep coming,” she said.
“Because we never want to see this Show go downhill. We can’t let it die.”
Among those who will keep the flame burning are the two Showgirls for 2017.
Libby Baguley, 23, was crowned Senior Showgirl, and among other things will go on to represent Narrabri at the Zone Four Showgirl competition ahead of next year’s Royal Easter Show.
“I feel really honoured to be an ambassador for our community,” she said.
