Police are on the hunt for car thieves following two early-morning vehicle fires in Narrabri in the past week.
The fires, both of which involved stolen vehicles, have also angered local firefighters, who have appealed to the public to keep an eye out for similar happenings.
The first of the fires was in Maitland Street on Saturday, December 30.
Narrabri Fire and Rescue Station Commander Shane Bradford said a Triple-Zero call was received about 5am with reports of “explosions”.
Firefighters soon discovered that a four-wheel drive ute was on fire and put the fire out quickly.
However, the event turned into a hazardous materials job because the ute had been left to burn near the Narrabri Creek.
