Local boy James Dhu to shave dreadlocks for a great cause

James Dhu cuddles one of the Sebastian Superbuddies donated to the Starlight Foundation.

When nine-year-old Narrabri boy James Dhu told his mother Kate that he wanted to shave his hair earlier this year during a trip to the Pilliga Bore Baths, she was confused.
James, a Namoi Valley Christian School student, has natural dreadlocks, which he has been growing for about three years.
Many people in the Narrabri and Wee Waa community know exactly who James is, and can identify him almost immediately when they see the dreadlocks.
So Kate was interested as to why he had chosen to shave it off.
What James said next left her stunned and brought tears to her eyes.
James told Kate that he wanted to shave his hair to raise money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation Australia, and to buy Scentsy Buddies for the children at Starlight room.
Scentsy Buddies are toy bears which have a pouch at the back to put a scent pack in.
James chose the Scentsy Buddies so children at Starlight would have something with them the whole time they were there.
