Another athlete from the sportiest town in Australia will make their mark on the international sporting stage in April.
Fifteen-year-old local rugby union player Blake Ryan was recently selected into the NSW Country under-16 side to tour Italy in April this year.
Blake, the son of Brendan Ryan and Teresa Whiting, and the rest of the 44-player squad will depart Sydney Airport on Thursday, April 12, and arrive in Rome the following day.
The squad will play matches on April 15 and 17 (Rome), 20 (Florence) and 23 (Padua).
Blake will be 16-years-old by the time he tours, following his birthday in March.
The Year 11 Narrabri High School student was selected into the squad after sending an application form of his prior achievements to be reviewed.
After discovering he was successful Blake said that he was keen to link up with his teammates during pre-tour training,and that he was excited to play overseas.
“We will play four games, and I think that the teams will be pretty tough,” he said.
“We will also be doing a fair bit of training over there too.
“I can’t wait for the new experience in footy and I think I will get a lot out of it.
“I’m pretty excited.”
