Brilliant Bella named Narrabri Shire’s best

Bella Stewart is the 2017 sportsperson of the year

Bellata’s Bella Stewart with The Courier Sportsperson of the Year Cup and sportsperson of the year medal, which the high-jumper won after an extremely successful year in 2017.

The highly-anticipated annual Narrabri Shire Sports Award ceremony was held at the Narrabri RSL Club on Saturday night.

There were 70 people in attendance, who filled the auditorium to acknowledge and congratulate the achievements of both individuals and teams on the sporting fields, tracks, pools and courts during the past year.

Nine awards were presented, which were claimed by eight worthy recipients.

There were also highly commended medals awarded in most categories for those who made the final decisions rather difficult for the judging panel.

Bella Stewart was crowned the Narrabri Shire sportsperson of the year for her incredible achievements in athletics, more specifically high-jumping.

Bella, the daughter of Greg Stewart and Sonia Gordon, also picked up the junior female award.

Other awards were won by Ella Tomlinson (sub-junior female), Joey Fowler (sub-junior male), Coby Cornish (junior male), Lisa Pillar (senior female), Grahame Keys (senior male), Tony Meppem (contribution to sport) and the Narrabri FC soccer side (team of the year).
