Ten Narrabri High School students travelled to the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre last week.

There, the students competed at the 2017 NSWCHSSA Secondary Swimming Championships.

The championships ran from Sunday, April 2 to Tuesday, April 4.

The students that competed were Nick Tomlinson, Dylan Gordon, Angus Browning, Andrew Coleman, Angus Gourley, Charlotte Penberthy, Rachel Caton, Lucy Gordon, Ella Tomlinson and Jorja Bakhuis

Leading from the front for the Narrabri High swimmers was Year 7 student and Narrabri Stingray Ella Tomlinson, who qualified for three finals.

Ella returned home with a bronze medal, after finishing third in the 12-years 50m freestyle.

Ella qualified for that final with a 31.50 second time, which was a personal best.

In the final she set a new personal best, swimming a time of 30.93.

She finished 0.22 of a second behind silver medal-winner Mackenzie Brennan from Pennant Hills.

Woonona’s Chelsea Jones claimed gold with a 29.36 second swim.

Ella competed in two more finals at the championships.

In the 12-years 200m freestyle she finished fifth, missing out on a podium finish by just four seconds.

She then finished 10th in the 12-years 100m freestyle.

She will now go on to swim at the NSW All Schools Swimming Championship in May at SOPAC.
