Luke McDermott returns as captain-coach for the Eagles

In just six weeks this Saturday the Narrabri Eagles Australian Rules side will be back in action.

And 2016 captain-coach Luke McDermott will again lead the boys in a re-branded competition.

McDermott’s Eagles will contest the AFL North West competition, which was previously referred to as the Tamworth Australian Football League.

It is a change that he welcomed with open arms.

“I think it is more representative of the area that the league covers,” McDermott said of the name change.

“It takes it away from being a Tamworth-centric league.”

The boys have now been training for over a month at ‘the Eagle’s nest’, Leitch Oval.

That included a kicking session run by Sydney Swans on Monday, February 6.

McDermott said that he felt that the club was moving in a positive direction.

“I think we are probably a little bit ahead of where we were this time last year,” he said.
