For the first time since 1994 the Narrabri District Cricket Association's representative side is the War Veterans Cup champions.

The Narrabri XI hosted Inverell in the grand final on Sunday at Collins Park and defeated the visitors by 73 runs.

A century to Nick Smart, and a half century to Narrabri skipper Lachlan Cameron helped the Pink Slugs post 231 from their 50 overs.

Jake Brayshaw then ripped through Inverell's batting attack, taking seven wickets to help Narrabri limit Inverell to 159 from 40 overs.

The day started on a positive note for the hosts, when skipper Cameron won the toss.

He chose to bat, and himself and Smart ensured that was the correct choice, as they combined for a 94-run second-wicket partnership which lasted almost 26 overs.
