Pink Slugs secure home grand final with a huge victory

Narrabri’s Tom Craig in action against Armidale at Collins Park on Sunday in round five of the War Veterans Cup. Craig finished unbeaten on 24 in his side’s eight-wicket win.

They did it - the Pink Slugs are through to the War Veterans Cup grand final.

And to make that even sweeter, the match will be played on home soil at Collins Park.

That came after both results on Sunday went Narrabri’s way.

Firstly, the Pink Slugs defeated Armidale at Collins Park.

The home side cruised to an eight-wicket win, chasing down the 116-run target set by Armidale in just 16 overs.

Following Narrabri’s win, news filtered through from the other round five match.

Competition leaders Gunnedah were defeated by Inverell away from home.

Gunnedah batted first and made 114, which Inverell chased down for the loss of eight wickets.

That meant that Narrabri and Inverell both overtook Tamworth and Gunnedah to sit in the top two spots, equal on 15 points.

Narrabri’s superior net run rate meant that it earned the top spot, and the right to host the home final.
