Gary Johnson is a pool safety expert with decades of experience.
He trains the local lifeguards at all three Narrabri Shire pools - Narrabri, Boggabri and Wee Waa - and visits about three times a year to run refresher courses.
But from Saturday through to Monday, Johnson trained seven new lifeguards, who will soon be on duty ahead of the 2017-18 swimming season.
The new lifeguards were James Hartog-Smith, Tom Kable, Hilton Jackson, Lucinda Caton, Anna Finney, Caitlin Jamieson and Pippy Donaldson.
It was a three-day course, which included theory and practical components.
And at the completion of the course the new lifeguards will complete three shifts as a part of an on-the-job component.
During three shifts as a part of that component the new group of lifeguards will do a site induction and learn the pool’s processes and procedures before receiving their pool lifeguard license.
Johnson is married to former Boggabri local Vanessa Boehm.
