Wee Waa inflicts Narrabri’s first loss

Wee Waa 1 - Narrabri 0

Wee Waa United FC striker Nathan Hamblin scored his side’s only goal in a 1-0 win on Saturday against league leaders Narrabri FC. Hamblin has now scored six goals in three games, two of which were match winners.

For the first time in the 2018 Namoi Soccer League season Narrabri FC suffered defeat on Saturday.

In round nine of the campaign Narrabri travelled to Cook Oval in Wee Waa to take on the in-form Wee Waa United FC.

The home side celebrated its third consecutive victory, a ninth minute Nathan Hamblin strike separating the sides in a 1-0 arm wrestle.

There was a strong breeze in Wee Waa and the home side ran with it in the first half.

Winning skipper Steve Phelps said that benefitted the side in the first half, and that the team then did not need to try anything too risky running into the wind in the second half, which allowed players to pass the ball around rather than using too much energy in attack.

Players from both sides agreed that Wee Waa’s Shane Soutter was the difference for his side.

Playing defensive midfield and defender roles Soutter was far too good, thwarting most Narrabri attacks.

Both goalkeepers were forced into several saves, and for the most part the match was a fairly even one.

Meanwhile fellow Narrabri side Crossroads Eleven FC was forced to forfeit its round nine match against Moree Services FC Two away from home due to a lack of numbers.
