Narrabri boxer Shannan Davey continued his remarkable return to boxing with another victory on Sunday.
In the final of the Boxing Queensland Golden Gloves tournament at the Acacia Ridge Hotel, the 19-year-old fought All Star Boxing (Pine Rivers PCYC Queensland) athlete Jacob Bobir.
Bobir was a hometown boxer, and had the crowd behind him.
However, Davey overcame that and won the bout via unanimous decision.
Davey and Bobir went head-to-head in a three three-minute round fight.
For both competitors it was their first fight of the tournament.
Both were scheduled to contest semi-final bouts on the Friday.
Two boxers were scheduled to meet on Thursday for the chance to take on Davey in his semi-final, but neither made weight.
Bobir’s opponent then pulled out due to injury.
Bobir was a walk-up, in-your-face type boxer and many in attendance were impressed with the way Davey forced him backwards.
“He just came straight at me and didn’t stop coming forward but I pushed him back and got some really good body shots in that slowed him down and I took the win,” Davey said.
